Let's celebrate the Vernaccia wine

The Vernaccia Preview is the annual event to present the new vintages of the 34 wineries of the wine originating from San Gimignano. This year it will be a preview a ‘spread-out’ between May and June. There will only be seated tastings, with seats placed at a safe distance from one another.

The preview of the new vintages of Vernaccia is possible at the Rocca di Montestaffoli in the Vernaccia Wine Experience in San Gimignano. Here the link for more info.

The Vernaccia wine has a centuries-long history. The first time it was mentioned was in 1276 on a document relating to the municipal taxes of the time. It is mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy and appreciated by many other poets, artists, Popes and Kings. We find a glass of Vernaccia drawn in the "Allegory of San Gimignano and Colle Val d'Elsa" that Giorgio Vasari painted in the Salone dei Cinquecento at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Furthermore, in 1966, Vernaccia was the first Italian wine to obtain the Controlled Designation of Origin.

The Vernaccia of San Gimignano has always had a feminine character and is nicknamed the White Queen in a land of Red Kings. It is a unique and versatile product, capable of evolving and improving over the years. It is a still, dry wine, with a fruity and floral scents. It's excellent well with appetizers, fish, white meats and it's surprising with the ribollita soup or simply as an aperitif. It is generally opened half an hour before tasting and served at a temperature between 8 and 10 ° C.

If you visit San Gimignano try the experience of tasting the symbolic wine of the territory.
